Scanner is a device which scans or captures photographic images, texts and similar type of sources for system display and editing. Scanners usually connected to the system using the SCSI interface. SCSI stands for Small Computer System Interface. It can also be connected through USB interface or through the parallel port. Scanners come in many types like flatbed, hand-held and feed-in. Microtek, Hp, Epson are some of the leading companies manufacturing the scanner devices.
Scanners are of two types local scanners and network scanners. A local scanner is a scanner which is used in the single personal system. It usually be connected through the USB cable. Most of the USB scanners get automatically installed through the Windows, otherwise we can setup it manually through the instructions given from the installation wizard.
- Unpack the new scanner and plug in the power cord.
- Look-out for the setup.exe file from the setup cd and double-click it.
- Follow and give the necessary inputs page by page in the installation wizard.
- Connect the USB cable to the scanner and the other end to the system when prompted.
- Windows will automatically recognize the newly installed device. Restart the system if necessary.
The installation of the drivers for scanners differs for the different type of connection methods, like SCSI, USB and through the parallel port. For installing the SCSI scanners follow these steps,
- Setup the jumper setting in the SCSI adapter.
- Connect all the internal cables and align the adapter card into the Bus slot and close the case. Now follow the instructions one by one from the installation wizard as same as we have seen for the USB scanners.
Network Scanner is a scanner which shared among the computers in a network. To setup the network scanner follow these steps.
- Click the start button and goto the control panel. Type network in the search box, under the sharing and network option click the view network devices and computers.
- Locate the scanner installed and then click the install button.
- Follow the instructions page by page and complete the setup from the installation wizard.
The problems in the scanners are troubeshooted by checking some necessary parameters. First check all the cable connections whether they are plugged properly and is of safe and secure. Now uninstall the USB, SCSI or the parallel port from the scanner and the system. Turn off the system and reconnect the cables again to the scanner and to the systems and check whether it is working properly or not. If not so, the problem will be with the drivers, uninstall the driver software and re-install by following the step by step instructions given in the installation wizard.
